It was just a normal walk home after school for Tommy Peterson… until he stumbles upon a baby bunny.  Having rescued the orphaned animal from the elements, not to mention a pair of bullies, Tommy soon becomes attached to his new friend and decides to keep him for his own.  But how will he take care of him?  When he shows his mother his new pet, she convinces Tommy that the bunny would be better off raised by someone who knows how to care for wildlife.  With the help of a professional rehabilitator, Tommy learns valuable lessons about caring for, respecting, and ultimately letting go of this adorable baby animal.

This story is based on the actual wildlife rehabilitation experience of the author.  Factual information is provided in the back of the book for those who wish to learn more about wildlife rescue and conservation.

Proceeds of this book will be donated to support wildlife rescue efforts and wildlife outreach education.

About the Author…

Mitzi Boles is a state licensed wildlife rehabilitator living in Payson, Arizona.  After years of interacting with families in need of help dealing with injured or orphaned animals, Mitzi decided to reach out to the public in an informative, gentle way to teach children and their parents about wildlife.  Mom, I Found a Bunny,” is the first book in a series of fictional conservation stories; each providing a unique scenario of an animal rescue that teaches children how to humanely deal with these issues should they arise.  The proceeds from these books will be used to help establish a non-profit wildlife sanctuary in Northern Arizona, and to develop an educational outreach program to teach children about wildlife.

Read What People Are Saying About This Book...

“ ‘Mom, I found a bunny’ are words that many a parent has heard before!  However, most moms & dads aren’t really prepared to care for a newborn wild animal.   Mitzi Boles’ tale of an orphaned bunny is a perfect primer!  Her story unfolds as the bunny is found by a little boy (Tommy) and finally reaches a proper animal-rehabilitation professional (Mrs. Wilderbee).  In the end, Tommy began volunteering with Mrs. Wilderbee and now has a much better understanding of the wild creatures with which we share our world!”

Jack Hanna

Director Emeritus, Columbus Zoo

TV’s Wildlife Correspondent

“The children’s book, Mom, I found a bunny! by Mitzi L. Boles is useful for educators, rehabilitators, and parents as an aid in teaching youngsters compassion for wildlife.  It clearly depicts the wildlife rehabilitation process and the emotions that encompass caring for wild animals in need.”

National Wildlife Rehabilitators Association

"A tenderly told tale that can help children understand both their own passionate desire to make a pet of a wild animal and the wild animal's need to stay free and healthy.  The sympathetic and expert adults are good role models for parents and teachers confronting the common dilemma of rescuing a wild creature."
